大兴土木！

I knew it! I knew it!

I was hoping to be proved wrong, but unfortunately, no such luck.

If only I could predict other things so accurately!

Construction follows me everywhere. Even when the property bubble burst in 97, that didn't break the spell for me!

Living in my parents place, I lived through my 'A' levels with the construction of a school just behind my window. After that was completed, a neighbour moved in and rebuilt their house. That took another year or so. I can't remember.

Fast forward to three years ago, when I got my first apartment.

Shortly after we moved in, a neighbour started major renovation works. As the unit's windows are less than 10m across from mine, imagine the agony I had to endure.

Just as this neighbour's renovations was over, someone bought over an old house just behind me (one back alley away) and rebuilt it from scratch.

That meant enduring another year of construction dust!

Now, in the new place that we have just bought and moved in, the construction of a condominium unit next door is driving me crazy (with all that early morning and late night works, not to mention, the dust!!!) but I seek solace in knowing that it will be over by the end of this year.

But, very dangerously, just behind me, as in... DIRECTLY behind my unit, there is a lone old bungalow that has been left sitting there uninhabited and undisturbed for many many years.

The first moment I laid my eyes on that house, I knew that it would not remain like this for long.

Not with my "construction" luck.

Now, barely 2 months after I have moved in, last evening, I spotted some construction workers walking around in that site.

And my worst fears were confirmed when I received an email noon time, requesting for access to my unit for the contractors to do a "pre construction survey" of that house.

History repeats itself!

Just as the neighbouring unit's construction is about to come to an end, a new one will begin, just right behind me.

I love this.

I really love this.

Wherever I go, construction follows.

There will be no peace in my life!
